Protection and Controls Engineering is responsible for the application, design, and documentation of electrical protection and control systems in Substations and on Distribution and Transmission lines in the Eversource-NH system. Responsibilities include developing circuit breaker, recloser, and fuse applications along with the calculation of all related settings. Engineers will also develop interconnection studies for generator interfaces, perform short circuit studies, and the analysis of system operations. Typical assignments involve the application of numerical protection and control systems and devices, distribution automation, SCADA RTUs, and digital monitoring devices.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of five years of related experience is required.  Other requirements include strong analytical/computer skills, and an aptitude for detailed engineering.  The ideal candidate will also have a power engineering background, experience performing overcurrent and distance coordination studies using ASPEN OneLiner modeling software or equivalent, design experience utilizing IEC61850 protocol, and be familiar with digital protection, control, and communications concepts.  A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.  Will have storm restoration and emergency assignments. 

Work is performed primarily in an office environment which requires sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs are involved.  Job can require traveling to operating districts, and companies within and outside the state.  Job will also require travel to electrical substation facilities as necessary for site walk downs and meetings.

Work includes calculating, comparing, technical writing, editing, planning, evaluating, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, designing, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing and presenting. This role works in an environment that often requires the performance of multiple simultaneous activities, where deadlines need to be met and work is performed under pressure while involving significant business commitments and results.
